Overcome enemy without, by facing the enemy within.

Have you ever thought that sometimes the only thing that is stopping you is you?

We have dreams, we have goals, we have things that we want to achieve.  Health, wealth, better relationships or even to start a business – for each of these things we have to overcome a significant barrier…. ourselves.

I’m reminded of the scene in Star Wars:  Return of the Jedi, where Luke is in training with Yoda.  During this part of the movie, Luke is given a bunch of tasks to do:  lift rocks with his mind, do a one-handed hand stand – you know, regular every day chores. But as good as Luke gets, he isn’t able to really fulfill his potential because his mind was clouded with fear and doubt.

At one point, he has to face his enemy and do battle.  Throughout the battle, his enemy took the form of Darth Vader – yet, when Luke overcame his adversary and saw inside the mask…. he saw his own face.

It’s the classic ‘David and Goliath’ story.  David (the future king) knew what he believed and the power that was available to him.  He didn’t doubt that power and stood against an enemy of his nation and his God.  With that belief – and the skills he developed doing his day job (being a shepherd) – he met and overcame his enemy.

I say all of that to say this…

Our enemy or obstacle often appears to be one thing;  finances, lack of time, lack of experience or even ‘that’ person who is stopping us.  Yet, when all is said and done, if we take the time to “be still”, identify and then overcome the enemy within (doubt, fear, insecurity) we will be able to overcome ANYTHING that comes our way.

Puzzle me this, puzzle me that

Do you have a dream or an ambition that has been stopped by ‘something’?  Take the time to ask yourself “What changes would I have to make in myself to overcome this obstacle?”  You may find that your energy is best spent fighting the enemy within and then the obstacle will either seem less significant or will be overcome by the new you that is feuled by the fire of belief.
